In Louisiana, 1 in 5 children lives in a food-insecure household. For many families, school meals serve as a primary source of nutrition during the week. When school is out—whether for weekends, holidays, or after-school hours—that support often disappears, leaving children vulnerable to hunger beyond the classroom.
Carbo Cares exists to close that gap. We ensure children have access to food when school meals are unavailable through a range of after-school, weekend, and community-based feeding initiatives. Our work extends beyond any single method and adapts to the needs of the families and communities we serve.
Whether through take-home food support, on-site community initiatives, or collaborative feeding programs, Carbo Cares provides consistent, child-centered access to nutritious, ready-to-eat options. Every initiative is designed with care, dignity, and practicality in mind—making it easy for children and families to receive support without stigma.
Food insecurity affects more than hunger. It impacts health, concentration, emotional well-being, and academic performance. While federal nutrition programs support students during the school week, critical gaps remain outside school hours. Carbo Cares works at the community level to meet those needs where and when they arise.
Through partnerships, volunteers, and a dedicated team of tenured educators and young professionals, Carbo Cares supports children and families across Louisiana—meeting hunger head-on, one child and one community at a time.
